"Nine months after our SAR program manager Sgt. John Durand and I took your SMS class at Camp Murray, Yakima County SAR found ourselves in the nations media last Sunday, Monday, Tuesday when a planeload of 10 skydivers dropped out of the sky high in the Cascades. (Sgt. Durand being mush wiser and apparently clairvoyant to boot, was conveniently on vacation, well out of the area). I wasn't so fortunate, ending up as the IC for the first 2 days.
We're through the search, body recovery, initial investigate phase, aircraft recovery and had our CISD today. The rest is in the hands of the FAA, NTSB and King County Washington Medical Examiners staff. When John gets back to town, we'll schedule an operational critique.
All in all things went very well with a 24 hour time frame for finding the crash, determining their were no survivors, and then within another 24 hours, the photographic documentation and initial look by the FAA and body recovery completed. Not bad really for a remote crash site in the mountains. A lot of things went very well and while us insiders know of improvement opportunities, the response community, press and families are all giving us high marks. I think we feel justifiably good about that. We're very proud of some great multi agency teamwork.
What we discussed and trained on in class were the guiding principles that we used this week. They work, even when you turn up the heat big time from our normal SAR mission. Thank You!! Just thought I'd let you know."
Wayne Frudd, IC and survivor

"I wanted to thank you again for a great three days at the CSRB Management Conference. I think I speak for everyone from the Summit County Rescue Group when I say that to a person we all felt the course was very beneficial. For me, it confirmed that at least some of the things we have been doing when we launch a search mission were not out in left field. But, you certainly left us with any number of considerations that historically we are probably weak on.II hope to hold a couple of trainings with our Team based on your approach. Thanks again."

"Very enjoyable and informative course. Professionally presented so that everyone from the newest SAR member to the experienced veteran member will walk away with a feeling of confidence and enthusiasm to tackle the next mission that comes his or her way. The hands on practice scenarios mimic real life searches closer than any other I have experienced. "

“Really enjoyed the class. I've been telling the SAR coordinator that MSO was a good class but something was missing. This seminar fills that gap nicely.”
“The planning process works! Once we get people trained under this new system things will run much smoother.”
” Just a note to say I enjoyed the class. The course was outstanding and it brought out the true sense of the "real" searches.”
“ I am very interested in becoming an instructor for this course. I feel that this is one of the best courses that I have ever been exposed to, SAR, business, etc. and I have sat through thousands of hours of various courses during my 50 some odd years. The workbook is one of the best I have ever seen.”
”This system gets to the basics and makes it very easy for everyone to understand the very fundamental concept of SAR and makes the managers comfortable with the system. Anyway I could go on for hours talking on this very subject.”
”Being new to search, at the end of the first day I felt overwhelmed and had second thoughts about whether I should be in the class. But at the end of the course I felt I really knew the material.”
“The class was a huge success”.
“The seminar and workbook are great contributions to SAR.”
